NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards

‘Celebrating Robyn’s Contribution to Palliative Care’

We are proud to share that Robyn, one of our dedicated Volunteers, was recognised at the Hunter Region NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards on Wednesday, 22 October, held at NEX Newcastle.
Now in their 19th year, these awards—run by The Centre for Volunteering—are one of the largest celebrations of volunteering in Australia. They honour the remarkable efforts of volunteers and leaders of volunteers across every region in NSW.

Robyn’s recognition is a testament to her extraordinary commitment to Volunteers for Palliative Care Inc. in Maitland, where she plays a vital role in supporting individuals diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families and caregivers. Her work goes far beyond giving time—she brings compassion, empathy, and unwavering dedication to every interaction.

Key Aspects of Robyn’s Voluntary Work

In-Home Support: Robyn visits clients in their homes, offering companionship and emotional support during profoundly difficult times.
Caregiver Respite: She provides relief for caregivers, giving them time to rest and recharge while offering reassurance and understanding.
Transport Assistance: Robyn drives clients to essential medical appointments, ensuring continuity of care.
Grief Support: Her care extends beyond a client’s passing, supporting families through their grief with empathy and connection.
Resource Connection: Robyn helps families access community services, empowering them with practical support.
Advocacy & Awareness: She actively promotes palliative care services, raising awareness in the community about the free support available.

Since completing her training in 2023, Robyn has supported multiple families, making a profound and lasting impact. She faces the most challenging aspects of palliative care—conversations about death, grief, and emotional pain—with grace and honesty. Her ability to know when to comfort, when to encourage, and when simply to listen is extraordinary.

Robyn also strengthens our volunteer team by mentoring others, sharing practical advice on self-care and emotional resilience, and fostering a sense of camaraderie. Her reliability and initiative make her a cornerstone of our service.

Congratulations, Robyn, on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication not only improves lives but also builds a more compassionate community around end-of-life care.
