About Volunteers for Palliative Care Inc. Maitland

Who We Help
We offer support to individuals residing in the Maitland Local Government Area who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition. Our services also extend to their families and caregivers.
We invite individuals who meet the following criteria to reach out to us:
- Residents of the Maitland LGA
- Those living with a progressive, life-limiting illness
- Individuals facing limited social support, experiencing isolation, or struggling to access suitable transportation for medical appointments

How We Help
Our trained team of Volunteers offers free, home-based, non-medical services designed to meet individual needs. Our services include Companionship, Respite Care, Biography Services, Transportation, and Grief Support Groups. We focus on improving quality of life in whatever form that may take, while also providing support for any end-of-life challenges.
As a registered Deductible Gift Recipient and Charitable Fundraiser, we are grateful for the generous support from our community, which complements the essential funding we receive through a NSW Health Ministerially Approved Grant (MAG). This funding enables us to provide our professional services at no cost to our clients.
We are committed to the philosophy of Palliative Care Australia, which emphasises “maximising quality of life and assisting families and carers”.

Our Community
Our team, which includes Volunteer Board Members, committed Volunteers, local Business Support Partners, and the broader community, is continually expanding, enhancing our ability to provide support across Maitland. This growth is also made possible through community grant funding, generous donations, and the invaluable efforts of our Volunteers.
We are always looking for individuals to join our team or assist in spreading awareness about our mission. If you would like to get involved, please Contact Us

Our Future
A Hospice for Maitland
We have a longer-term vision for a hospice to provide specialised care in a compassionate environment for those in advanced stages of end-of-life. This started in response to community interest, and we continue to explore government and private funding.
Providing people with a local community hospice for end-of-life support means, for some, the difference between having family with them at the end or not. Our centre will focus on providing holistic support and services, combining both medical and non-medical palliative care.”
– Judith Robinson, Volunteer Coordinator 2004-2022
We welcome donations to support our operations and vision.
